Video
You can watch DVD-quality movies that are released on UMD on the PSP's widescreen display. Alternatively, you can download movies from the Internet and load it on the device's memory card. Conversion software and utilities can be used to convert video files in one format to a PSP-supported format. Once the video files are in the appropriate format, you can load them on the memory card, and the device will recognize the format and display the video. The PSP is equipped with a high-quality sound system that is able to provide rich, crisp sound quality over its integrated speakers or headphones. You also can save audio files on the memory card and use it as a portable multimedia device.
Images
You can download and view images on the PSP. The device supports common file formats such as JPEG and is able to display high-resolution images. You can view images by navigating to the appropriate application from the interface and even set up slideshows or zoom in and out of images. Depending on free memory, a PSP can store thousands of high-quality images. One of the problems with using the LCD screen as a digital display is that the PSP is not able to recognize files that are stored more than two levels deep. For example, you will be able to view pictures stored in a particular folder, but if the folder contains another folder within it, the device will not "read" them and will not be able to display them. You can download entire albums from a computer using a USB connection or save images from the Internet.
Internet
The PSP has built-in wireless networking capabilities and a user-friendly web browser. To activate the Internet connection, the device has be in range of a wireless router connected to a modem. The PSP has to be configured so it is recognized and authorized by the established network's security features. The PSP has a switch to turn off the wireless feature to conserve battery power. Once logged in, the integrated web browser enables the user to navigate easily, using either the joystick or control buttons to control the pointer.
E-Books
The PSP LCD screen also can be used as an e-book reader. The feature is most often used to read comic books but is able to display text-based pages equally well. When displaying text, the PSP essentially displays the page as an image in JPG format; as such, you will need a software program that is able to convert text documents to JPG images. Once the text is converted to image files, you can store it in memory and read from the wide LCD display. There are websites that allow free downloads for PSP-supported comics, and if you save one of these, you will not need a converter tool.
