How to Beat Shockwave on Transformers the Game for the PSP

Transformers: The Game came out in 2007 and has made appearances on four different consoles, the PC, and Sony's handheld PSP. The game generated mixed reviews, with many reviewers citing uninspired game play and general bugginess as their reasons for lower-than-average scores. In one mission in the PSP version of the game, the player takes on the role of Optimus Prime, and is tasked with destroying a Decepticon called Shockwave before he destroys a city. This "boss" fight has been the cause of much frustration for fans of the game, because it is not immediately apparent how to defeat Shockwave. There is a simple step-by-step process for beating this mid-game boss.

Defeating Shockwave.

  When the mission begins, Shockwave is in his cannon form. He is nearly impervious to weapons used by Optimus in this mode, so pick up an environmental weapon (car, light post, tree, etc.) and attack Shockwave with it.

  After two or three hits with an environmental weapon, Shockwave will transform out of cannon mode, and become vulnerable to Optimus' weapons. Melee attacks are the most effective. Close and pound on Shockwave with melee attacks.

  Once enough damage has been dealt, Shockwave will retreat to a different portion of the city. As Optimus, follow Shockwave closely. If you get too far behind, a timer will appear and begin to count down. If the timer reaches zero, the mission ends in failure.

  Once Shockwave stops (or is found again, if you lost him during the chase), close distance and keep hammering him with melee attacks. Continue in this manner until Shockwave is defeated.
