Megaman Games for PSP

Few franchises receive the popularity and acclaim that Capcom's Mega Man gets. The first of it's kind when Mega Man was released for the NES in 1987, the series has maintained it's fame for many ears. On Sony's hand held gaming system, the PSP, there have been two Mega Man games released, both remakes of previous Mega Man games.
  1. Mega Man Powered Up

    • Powered Up, released in March of 2006, is a remake of the original Mega Man for NES, with several notable changes. Most obvious is the new design---a very colorful, cutesy interpretation of Mega Man that might not be for everyone. In addition to the classic mode, there is a new version featuring two new stages and bosses. There are several additional difficulty modes and you can switch between them for each level. If one level is too hard you can just turn down the difficulty. Players can unlock and play as any of the games bosses; and Capcom has even added a level editor to create and share your own stages.

    Mega Man Maverick Hunter X

    • Maverick Hunter X is a remake of Mega Man X, released for the SNES in 1993. Something of a departure from the original series in tone, the game play remains essentially the same. Players choose from eight stages, acquiring weapons and power ups before facing the games final level. Mega Man X holds up remarkably well even today, and Maverick Hunter X offers some improvements. First of all, the PSP version offers updated 3D graphics. There are also animated cut scenes with voice acting to help flesh out the games story. Additionally, you can unlock Vile, Mega Man's arch-nemesis, as a playable character, along with a 24-minute animated video providing some back story on the Mega Man universe. For players who know the original by heart, a reshuffling of the item placements and slight tweaks to the boss behavior will keep the game from being too familiar.

    Comparison

    • If your piggy bank is running low and you just can't choose, it's worth noting that Powered Up is ranked higher according to Metacritic, with Powered Up scoring an aggregate 82 and Maverick Hunter X getting a 79, although that shouldn not be the deciding factor. Both games bring updated graphics to some of the best loved entries in the Mega Man series.
