How to Take the Games Out of the Cases for PSP

Sony developed the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, as a handheld video game console to compete with Nintendo's popular DS system. Released in 2005, it features online elements and high portability like its competitor, but it also boasts better graphical capabilities and additional utilities like music and video playback. All of the PSP's games and movies come on a unique disc called the Universal Media Disc, or UMD. The UMD exists exclusively for use with the PSP, so getting it out of the case and using it properly can be a little tricky at first.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the game case as you would any other contemporary video game or DVD case. The case is bound on the left hand side and split on the other three. Stick your fingers in the indention the right-hand side opposite the bound side, and it will snap open.

    • 2

Place your fingers around the UMD, fastened in place on the right-hand side of the opened case, and lift it out of the case. Note that the UMD is housed in a thin plastic sheath with a shape that is rounded on one side and flat on another. It looks a bit like a triangle with one side rounded. Do NOT remove the UMD from the plastic sheath or else the PSP won't be able to read it.

    • 3

Slide the disc into the slot on the back of your PSP so the flattened side of the sheath faces the top of the console. Turn the PSP's power on and begin playing.
