How Do I Download a Video Game to My PSP?

If you own a Sony PSP, then you know how versatile it can be. Not only can it play games, but it also plays music and videosl. If you use your PSP primarily for game playing, then you know that there are a lot of games available for you to purchase externally and upload to your PSP via a game card. However, you can download games from websites, which allows you to play a myriad of games that you download directly from your computer onto the PSP for faster game play with more variety.
  1. Choosing Games

    • There are many websites that are dedicated to helping you find games to download from the Internet onto your PSP using your computer. However, not all of these sites can be trusted. Many have major copyright infringements that make the games illegal to download. Others download spyware and viruses onto your computer along with the games. Choose only reputable sites. They may ask you to pay a small, upfront membership free that gives you access to all of the video games. Sites like PSPBlender.com and FeedMyPSP.com are reputable and have permissions on all of their games, making it legal to download from them.

    Downloading to Your PSP

    • When you've selected a few games that you'd like to download, use the website to download them to your computer. Create a folder for PSP games so that you'll remember where you've saved them, and save only games that end with .psp, as those are the only ones that will be compatible for play on your PSP. You'll also need to get a new memory card for your PSP. The one that comes stock with the machine is usually 32 megabytes, but to download games, you'll need at least 1 gigabyte or more. Your local electronics store will have bigger cards. When you're ready to download, connect your PSP to your computer with a USB cord. A dialog box will appear, showing you the contents of your PSP. Navigate into the "Games" folder, and drag your games from your computer folder into the PSP Games folder. The video games have now been downloaded to your handheld.

    Playing Games

    • Once the games have downloaded, you can disconnect the PSP from your computer. Navigate your way to the Games folder on your PSP, and you should be able to see the downloaded games in a menu there. Select the one you want to play by highlighting it and pressing the "X" button. You may find that some games that you've downloaded are not compatible with your PSP. This is most likely because they were designed for an older or newer model. However, most games should play easily.
