How to Convert Movies to Play On PSP

Although the PSP does support video playback, getting your favorite movies on your PSP can take a little bit of work. The PSP does not support common video formats like AVI and MPEG, and will only play back the relatively obscure .MP4 format. However, there are plenty of free video conversion tools that you can use fairly simply to get your favorite video files ready to be played on your PSP.

Instructions

Select the videos that you want to convert. You can convert nearly any file, including those purchased from online merchants like Amazon.com and digital copies included on DVDs

    • 2

Download a formatting program. There are several free programs available, including FormatFactory (which can also convert videos to play on smartphones like the iPhone and BlackBerry) or the PSP-centric PSP Video 9. See the Resources section for more information on these programs.

Change your files into the .MP4 file. This part of the process will depend largely on the program you are using. Format Factory and PSP Video both have a "browse" button that you can click and then an "OK" button which will begin the process. The converted file will then appear in a target folder, which is generally located in your program files.

Transfer your new files to your PSP. You can do this by connecting your PSP via mini-USB to your computer, and then dragging the new files into a dedicated folder in the "MP_ROOT" directory to store your videos. Even though you may already see a PSP video folder in the main directory, this folder will not accept videos transferred from your PC, so you need to create your own in the "MP_ROOT" category.
