How to Use the LocoRoco 2 Save Editor

"LocoRoco 2" is a 2008 platform game for the Sony PlayStation Portable. It has the same platform mixed with puzzle style of gameplay as the original game, but boasts new features such as the ability to swim. If you find the game too difficult, there is a way to cheat by using a save editor to modify the game. In order for the editor to work, your PSP must be running custom firmware and have a special plug-in installed, which modifies the way in which saved games are stored. You will need to do the actual editing of the save games from your PC.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Preparing Your PSP

    • 1

Navigate to the PSPatchator website (see Resources) and download the "Savegame deemer" plugin. This is necessary in order for your "Locoroco 2" save games to work with the save editor. It is only possible to use this plug-in if your PSP is running custom firmware.

    • 2

Connect your PSP to your PC using a mini-USB cable. Right click on the downloaded file and select "Extract" from the pop-up menu.

    • 3

Hold down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard and left click each of the files to select them. Right click on any of the highlighted files and select "Copy" from the pop-up menu. Navigate to the "SEPlugins" folder found in the root of your PSP memory stick and right click. Select "Paste" from the pop-up menu. If you do not have the "SEPlugins" folder, create it first and then paste the files in it.

    • 4

Open the file "game.txt.new" in the "SEplugins" folder and copy the text. Open the file "game.txt" in the "SEPlugins" folder and paste the text into it. If there is no "game.txt" file in the folder, rename the "game.txt.new" file to "game.txt."

    • 5

Save the changes to "game.txt" and then disconnect your PSP. Reboot the PSP while holding down the "R" button to enter the recovery menu. Use the d-pad to scroll down to "Plugins" and then press the "X" button.

    • 6

Highlight "deemerh.prx" and press the "X" button to enable it. Exit the recovery menu and your PSP will boot normally.

    Creating the Savegame

    • 7

Insert the "LocoRoco 2" UMD into your PSP and wait for the game to load. Select "New" from the main menu and play the game. Select "Yes" when prompted if you want to save the game.

    • 8

Select a blank slot on the memory card by pressing up and down on the d-pad and then pressing the "X" button to save. The words "Save completed" will appear. Press the "O" button to return to the game and then press the "Home" button. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to quit the game.

    • 9

Connect your PSP to your PC using a mini-USB cable. Navigate to the "Saveplain" folder inside the "PSP" folder. Check for the folder that has the "Locoroco 2" save game data in it. If it is the first time you are using the "Deemer" plug-in, there should only be one folder inside the "Saveplain" folder.

    Using the editor

    • 10

Navigate to the P-SPatchator website and click the "Download" tab. Click the "Locoroco 2 savegame editor" link to start the file download.

    • 11

Double-click the file after the download is complete to run the editor. Click the "Check" button on the bottom right of the program screen for the program to connect to the Internet and update with the latest information. The version number and features will display once the check is complete.

    • 12

Click the "Load & Save" tab and then click the "Browse" button next to "Path of the save game file." Select the file with the "BIN" extension found in the folder that you previously identified as that of "Locoroco 2." The folder name will be "UCES01059" and it is inside the "Saveplain" folder located in the "PSP" folder of the memory stick.

    • 13

Click the radio button next to "Overwrite," underneath "Save" in the editor if you want to replace your old "Locoroco 2" save game with the newly edited one. Click the radio button next to "Save to a new file" if you would rather to save it separately.

    • 14

Click the new "Patching" tab that appears. Click the drop-down menu next to "Choose" and select the stage that you want to modify. Click the drop-down menu next to "Mui1" to "Mui3" and select either "Found" or "Not Found" depending on what you prefer. "Found" means that you won't have to search the level for these hidden critters yourself so keep it on "Not Found" if you want the game to be more challenging.

    • 15

Click the drop down menu next to "Choose parts" under "MuiMui House" and select the parts you want in the game. Type a number next to "Amount" to add that amount of parts to the game. Do this for all the levels you want to modify and then click the "Patch" button.

    • 16

Close the editor and disconnect your PSP from your PC. Start "Locoroco 2" and select "continue" from the main menu. Your modified savegame will load and you will see all the changes you made in the editor.
