How to Convert DAX to CSO

"CSO" is a special compressed file format used for storing backups of PSP UMD files. The advantage of CSO over other PSP file formats like ISO and DAX is the smaller file size. This means you are able to fit in more games onto a memory stick. It is easy to convert from one of the file formats to another with the right software. The use of CSO files is only possible on a PSP with custom firmware installed and you must own an original copy of the game in order to legally use the backup.

Instructions

PSP ISO Compressor

  Download and install the PSP file format converter called "PSP ISO Compressor."

  Click the "Convert DAX->CSO" radio button on the left of the PSP ISO Compressor program.

  Click the "..." button next to "Input File(s)" to select the DAX file you want to change.

  Click the "..." button next to "Output File(s)" and specify the location on your hard drive that you want to save the new CSO file to.

  Select a compression level of one to nine from the "Compression Level" drop down menu. The higher the compression level the smaller the CSO file will be.

  Click "Convert" to begin the conversion process. You will now have a CSO file that has been converted from your DAX file.
CSO-DAX Compressor

  Download and install the PSP file format converter called "CSO-DAX compressor."

  Click the "Decompress" tab in "CSO-DAX compressor" then select "DAX->CSO decompression" from the drop down menu.

  Click the "Browse" button next to "File To Decompress" to select the DAX file you want to convert.

  Click the "Browse" button next to "Destination File" and specify the location where you want to save the newly created CSO file.

  Select a compression level from one to nine in the "Recompress to CSO with compression level" drop down menu. The highest value will create the smallest file.

  Click "Decompress" in CSO-DAX Compressor to convert your DAX file to a CSO.
