Action/Adventure
The action/adventure genre for the PSP includes titles designed for gamers interested in high-impact, action-based gameplay. Titles such as "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker," "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" bring the action and adventure of console franchises to the PSP. Other games, such as "God Eater Burst," "Age of Zombies" and "Undead Knights," are unique to the PSP library and feature action/adventure gameplay.
Racing
Racing fans will find that the PSP features NTSC titles from established racing game franchises. "Need for Speed: Shift," "Gran Turismo" and "Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition" provide more conventional car-based racing, while "ModNation Racers," "Wipeout Pure" and "Burnout Legends" offer more arcade-style racing experiences.
Role-Playing
The role-playing games (RPGs) released for the PSP's NTSC library include games in both the Western and Japanese styles. Fans of Japanese RPGs will find titles such as "Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection," "Half-Minute Hero" and "Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite" to fulfill their gaming interests. Gamers who find Western RPGs more appealing will find titles such as "X-Men Legends 2," "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance" and "Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade" in the PSP library.
Shooting
Established console shooter franchises are represented by titles such as "Resistance: Retribution," "Killzone: Liberation" and "Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters," while titles like "Infected," "Everyday Shooter," and "Who's That Flying" introduce gamers to new titles.
Sports
The PSP library of sports games released in NTSC regions reflect the sports games on major consoles. Yearly sports game series, such as "Madden NFL," "MLB: The Show" and the "NBA 2K" are all represented in the PSP's selection of sports games. Alternative sports titles, such as "Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix," "SSX On Tour" and the "WWE Smackdown vs. Raw" series, are also available.
Other/Variety
Certain titles within the PSP's library of NTSC games blend or break existing genres. "Patapon 3" mixes rhythm gameplay with action and role-playing elements. The "Capcom Classics Collection" games compile classic arcade games from a variety of genres. "flOw," also released for the PlayStation 3, seemingly breaks conventional genres: it's based on the evolution of a simple organism.
