How to Get Final Fantasy VIII Not to Freeze on the PSP

You no longer have to hang onto your old PlayStation gaming console if you want to relive the experience of "Final Fantasy VIII." Sony has made a virtual version of the game available in the PlayStation Network that is compatible with the PlayStation 3 and PSP gaming consoles. If you're having a hard time getting your copy of "Final Fantasy VIII" to work, you can troubleshoot the issue in a few ways.

Instructions

    • 1

Verify that the "Final Fantasy VIII" disc image file has completely downloaded from the PlayStation Network. Go to the "PlayStation Network" icon on your PSP and select the "Downloads" option. If "Final Fantasy VIII" is still listed in this window, it is still being downloaded. Attempting to execute the game at this point could potentially freeze your PSP. Wait for the download to finish before continuing.

Sign into the PlayStation Network prior to the start of "Final Fantasy VIII." Because the game was purchased via your PlayStation Store account, your PSP may require you to log into your account before you can play. If you don't log in manually, it will try to log you in automatically. If this happens while the game is loading it could freeze your PSP. Select "Sign In" from the "PlayStation Network" menu to sign into your account before continuing.

Use the "System Update" function to update your PSP's software. If you have downloaded "Final Fantasy VIII" from the PlayStation Store and are still running the original firmware on your PSP, you may come up against some incompatibility issues that can cause the game to freeze. Select "Settings" and "System Update" to update your PSP. Try to play "Final Fantasy VIII" again.
