How to Kill a Gold Rathian

As with other versions of the game, killing a Gold Rathian in "Monster Hunter Freedom 2" rewards you with extremely rare items that you can use to craft powerful weapons and armor. In this version of the game, you must kill 100 Wyverns to force the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos out of hiding. For the most part, a battle with a Gold Rathian is very similar to fighting the Rathian monsters you encounter throughout the game. However, some notable differences will make the battle easier.

Things You'll Need

Thunder elemental weapons
Flash bombs
Earplug skill
Onslaught Hammer (optional)

Instructions

  Employ the Earplug skill so that the Gold Rathian's roar does not stun you. This is particularly important if you're a gunner, since the lighter armor does little to protect you from the monster's attacks.

  Equip Thunder elemental weapons or the Onslaught Hammer for the most damage. Gold Rathians, like their normal counterparts, are weak against Thunder, so take full advantage of this weakness.

  Set off flash bombs frequently. If you need to heal, take a moment to regroup or start an onslaught of attacks. Flash bombs are very effective against the Gold Rathian, as they are against other Rathian monsters.

  Focus your attacks on the wings. Unlike most Rathians, whose weak point is in the head, the Gold Rathian's weak point is in its wings. Gold Rathians are also weak in the head, but attacking the wings will cause the most damage.
