How to Encrypt PSP Games

The PlayStation Portable allows users to set parental control features to limit the time, games and video content children are allowed to use. While the PSP cannot encrypt specific game titles, it can encrypt types of games when it's programmed with control ratings for content played on the device. These ratings restrict game categories by requiring a four-digit code when certain games are inserted in the PSP.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Settings" (toolbox icon) from the PSP menu.

    • 2

Scroll down, and select "Parental Controls" (the lock icon). Press "X" to continue.

    • 3

Enter a 4-digit code. Write down or memorize the code to avoid having to reset the device.

    • 4

Select the level of encryption. The PSP allows the following levels of encryption to restrict content according to Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) age-appropriate game ratings: Level 2 for "Early childhood," Level 3 for "Everyone," Level 4 for "Everyone ages 10 and up," Level 5 for "Teen," Level 9 for "Mature," and Level 10 for "Adult."
