Removing the Face Plate
Lay the PSP on a flat surface, screen side down, so the PSP logo is facing up. Remove the battery panel and battery by pushing in a tab located on the side of the PSP and then prying the panel away from the system. Remove the battery by using a small tab on the battery to pry the battery away from the battery compartment.
Unscrew the seven screws holding the face plate in place. The heads of the screws are located on the back side of the PSP. Two of the screws are found on the right side of the PSP, one screw is located in the middle of the bottom of the PSP (the side where the AC power outlet connector is located) and four screws are located on the bottom of the battery compartment. Removing the screws from the battery compartment will void your warranty through the Sony Corporation.
Flip the PSP over so the screen is facing up.
Remove the faceplate by gently lifting it upwards and away from the PSP. Take out the analog nub located on the left side of the face plate underneath the D-pad and set it aside.
Remove the LCD Screen
Remove the button bar located on the bottom side of the PSP's LCD screen by using a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the bar away from the screen. Set aside the small rubber piece located on the left side of the button bar that is used by the PSP's analog nub.
Disconnect small cable connecting the button bar to the PSP system by lifting it upwards and away from the body of the PSP.
Remove the LCD screen from the body of the PSP by popping out the two tabs holding the screen in place. Pull the LCD screen out of the body of the PSP with a small flathead screwdriver. One tab is located on the bottom left side of the LCD screen, while a second tab is located on the bottom right side of the LCD screen.
Remove the brown clips connecting the LCD screen to the PSP with a small flathead screwdriver. Remove the clips by gently prying the clips upwards from the body of the PSP.
Remove the D-pad
Unscrew one silver screw located on the upper left side of the PSP with a small Phillips screwdriver.
Pull the D-pad away from the PSP to locate the brown tab connecting the D-pad to the motherboard.
Disconnect the cable from the motherboard with a small flathead screwdriver.
Remove the LCD Screen Brace
Locate the seven screws connecting the metal LCD brace to the motherboard of the PSP. Three of the screws are located on the top section of the LCD brace and four screws are located on the bottom of the LCD brace.
Unscrew the screws with a small Phillips screwdriver.
Place the five larger screws together on your work space, and place the two smaller screws in a separate location for proper reassembly.
