How to Update PSP With USB Cable

The PSP is a popular hand-held video game system manufactured by Sony. As software glitches are found, patches are programmed and sent to consumers in the form of software updates. These updates also incorporate new features and tools to benefit the consumers. If you want to update the version of your PSP's software, you can do so with a download to your computer and a simple transfer to your PSP with the USB cable.

Instructions

      Turn off the PSP and insert the Memory Stick Duo into the card slot.

      Turn on the PSP and fully charge the battery by connecting it to the AC adapter. Keep the PSP connected to the adapter throughout the update process.

      Connect the PSP USB cable to the PSP itself and an open USB port on your computer.

      Select the "Open Folder to View Files" option once your computer recognizes the connection.

      Double-click the "PSP" folder, then the "GAME" folder to open it.

      Select "Create new folder" from the left side of the window and type in "UPDATE" to name the new folder.

      Download the new PSP update from the PSP website. Save the file in the "UPDATE" folder you recently created as "EBOOT.PBP" without the quotation marks.

      Remove the USB cable from your PSP and computer once the update is finished downloading to the PSP's memory card.

      Scroll to the right on the PSP main menu and stop on the "Game" option. Scroll down to "Memory Stick Duo" and press "X." Press "X" over the "PSP Update" to begin the installation of the update.
