How to Format a Memory Stick for PSP Allocation Size

Before you use a memory stick with your Sony PSP, that stick must be properly formatted. This installs a PSP-compatible file system on the device, allowing the system to use it to store data. Install the correct file system onto your memory stick to ensure it has the proper file allocation size. The most straightforward way to do this is to use your PSP&'s main menu and the built-in "Format" option.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the memory stick into your PSP. The memory stick compartment is on the left side of your PSP.

    • 2

      Turn on your PSP.

    • 3

Press the "Home" button if a game automatically loads. This will show you the main menu. If no game is presently in the console, the main menu will automatically load and pressing the "Home" button is not necessary.

    • 4

      Select "Settings."

    • 5

Select "System Settings." From this menu, select "Format Memory Stick." You will be asked to select "Yes" or "No" to verify that you would like to format the stick. Select "Yes."
