How to Get to the Parental Control Settings on a PlayStation 2

If you've ever inserted a DVD in your PlayStation 2 and received a "Change Parental Control Setting" message, you're not alone. By default, Sony enabled the PlayStation 2 parental control settings, which prevent certain movies from playing. If you're of age to watch the DVD, you can change or even remove the parental control settings by accessing the options from within the DVD settings menu. After changing the settings, you must reset your system for the changes to take effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PlayStation 2. Insert a movie that brings up the parental control settings, such as an R-rated movie. Click "Yes" to change the parental control settings to level 8, which allows all movies to be played. Enter your password.

    • 2

Press "Select" on your PlayStation 2 controller once the movie's title screen appears. You'll see the DVD menu options. Navigate to and click "Settings," just above the "Pause" icon.

    • 3

Click on the "Lock" icon, which indicates the parental control settings. Scroll down to and click "Parental Control." Enter your password again. From there, you can change the parental control level and password. You can remove the parental control option entirely if you turn the level to "Off," while setting it to a higher rating, such as 7 or 8, will result in only the highest adult rated movies triggering the parental control password.

Press the "Open" button on your PlayStation 2 console and remove the DVD. Press the "Power" button to turn off the system. Press it again to turn it on. Once the console restarts, the parental control settings will have successfully saved.
