How to Use the Guitar Hero Music Studio

After playing many rounds of Guitar Hero, you may tire of the songs included within the game. Many users want to create custom songs that they can play along to. While Guitar Hero III did not allow the player to create custom songs, Activision, the company behind Guitar Hero, responded to the demand for custom songs by including this feature in their follow up game, Guitar Hero World Tour. Through the "Guitar Hero Music Studio" feature, players can record songs within the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Guitar Hero World Tour. On the main menu screen, navigate to "Music Studio." Choose the "Create New Song" option. Any song you have created in the past will be available to you on this main screen as well.

    • 2

Choose the tempo you want for your song. The screen starts with a default beat. Click the "BPM" button and use the keypad to raise or lower the speed. Set a fast pace for a dance track, a slow beat for a ballad.

    • 3

Decide how you want to approach your song. The Music Studio gives you five tracks to work with: lead guitar, rhythm guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums. For each track, you can either build your songs by layering preexisting samples, or you create songs from scratch by writing out each note.

    • 4

Layer with samples by first looking at the left hand menu to choose from a prerecorded loop. Click each loop to hear a sample. When you find the one you want to use, cut and paste it into the timeline on the right. To record tracks manually, select the "record" button. The program allows you to "play" your controller like an instrument, recording your keystrokes. The screen will give you a key guide to indicate which button on the controller produces each effect.

    • 5

Choose what instruments you want to use for each track. There are many variations of sounds you can use. For example, you can choose different guitar sounds and different types of drums.

    • 6

Lay out each track, one instrument at a time. Press "Preview" to hear how the components sound as you work.

    • 7

Adjust the mixing of your song. Each track has its own volume level, and you can raise or lower it to control which instruments get priority.

    • 8

Select "Publish Song" when you are ready to save your song. From this menu, you can preview your entire track, or save the song to your console hard drive.
