How to Create Custom Songs on Guitar Hero 2

Guitar Hero 2 is the sequel to the popular game Guitar Hero, where anyone can pick up the guitar-shaped controller and play along to their favorite rock songs. Because of its popularity, software-savvy programmers have developed a method for you to upload virtually any song and play it on Guitar Hero 2. The many steps seem complicated, but will take you no longer than 30 minutes to complete, allowing you to play brand new custom songs on Guitar Hero 2.

Things You'll Need

Computer
Modded Playstation 2 capable of playing burned DVDs
Guitar Hero 2 for the Playstation 2
DVD burner
DVD burning software
Blank DVD
Guitar Hero Explorer

Instructions

  Find and download the .mid file of the song you wish to add to Guitar Hero 2 to your computer. This is the file containing the note pattern. Make sure it is a Guitar Hero 2 file and not a Guitar Hero 1 file or the song will not work.

  Get the .mp3 for the song that you wish to play, making sure it is the same version of the song that the .mid file is for. You can get the .mp3 by ripping the track from a CD or downloading it from one of the many music providers online.

  Insert your Guitar Hero 2 disk into your computer and copy the contents onto your PC desktop.

  Open Guitar Hero Explorer on your computer.

  In Guitar Hero Explorer select File, then select Add Archive, and using the browser select the MAIN.HDR file in the GEN folder of the Guitar Hero 2 that you copied onto your computer.

  Expand the Songs folder in Guitar Hero Explorer by double clicking on it. There will be more folders inside of this folder, where each folder has the title of a song on Guitar Hero 2. Select the folder of the song you wish to replace with your custom song by double clicking it. There is no way to add another song without deleting an existing one.

  Right click on the .mid file of the song you have decided to replace and select Replace. Using the browser that will pop up, replace it with the downloaded .mid file of the song you wish to add to Guitar Hero 2.

  Right click on the .vgs file for that song and click import.

  Right click on the box that comes up and select Add, then add the .mp3 file for the song you wish to add to Guitar Hero 2 using the default settings provided.

  Take out the Guitar Hero 2 game disk and insert your blank DVD.

  Open your DVD burning software and select "Create an ISO".

  Add the folders for the game to the burner window in the following order: GEN, IOP, VIDEOS, SLUS_214.47, SYSTEM.

  Input SLUS21447 as the disk name, PLAYSTATION as the producer name, and Region 1 for the region code.

  Burn the ISO to your blank DVD. This DVD now has Guitar Hero 2 with the customized song on it, ready for you to play on your modded Playstation 2.
