How to Make PS2 Games Work on HD With DNAS Swap

The DNAS Swap utility is a function of the Windows program "PS2 USB Util", which is software that prepares backed-up or imported PlayStation 2 game files for play from an external hard drive on PlayStation 2 systems that have been modified to allow such files. Before PlayStation 2 games will run on a modified console, they must be patched using DNAS Swap so that the console will recognize them on the hard drive. This patching is done on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the hard drive containing the backed-up PlayStation 2 games you wish to play to the USB port of your computer and start "PS2 USB Util". If you don't have this program, it can be downloaded from the site in Resources.

    • 2

Open the "File" menu of "PS2 USB Util" and select "Open Game List". Navigate to the directory on your hard drive containing the PlayStation 2 game image you want to run and click "Load".

    • 3

Right-click on the game you wish to patch using DNAS Swap and select "DNAS Swap". On some versions of the program, this option is called "Patch for DNAS".

    • 4

Click "Patch" and wait for the progress bar to indicate your game has been patched with DNAS Swap. This may take up to half an hour for larger game files.

    • 5

Close "PS2 USB Util" and disconnect the external hard drive. Connect the external hard drive to the USB port of a PlayStation 2 that has been modified to run backed-up games. Turn on your PlayStation 2 to launch the backup launching software installed when your console was modified. Navigate to the DNAS patched game file on your external hard drive and press "X" to run.
