How to Remove Parental Controls on a PlayStation 2

The purpose of the parental controls settings on the PlayStation 2 is to block the ability to watch certain, or all, movies, since this unit is the first video-game console to come equipped with a DVD player. The parental controls make it necessary to input a four-digit code in order to watch a DVD movie. You can easily turn off this setting if you know the parental control code.

Turn on the power to your PlayStation 2 game console. If you have a video game currently inserted into the console, remove it and insert a DVD.

Enter the current parental control code when prompted by the console. As the DVD begins playing, press the "Select" button on your Play Station 2 controller. When the menu comes up, look for the "Settings" icon. Pressing the "X" on your controller will take you into the "Settings" menu. Scroll down until you find "Parental Controls Menu" and press "X."

Turn the "DVD Parental Control Level" to "Off." Now, all DVDs will be able to play without a parental control code. After changing this setting, eject the DVD. Then reinsert the DVD.
