USB Devices That Are Compatible With the PS2

The Sony PlayStation 2 is a video game console and successor to the original PlayStation that was first introduced in 2000. In addition to better graphics, the console features several hardware improvements, including two USB ports on the front. While USB support was slim during the beginning of the console's life, several USB devices have emerged that can be used with the PS2.
  1. Headset

    • Distributed with Sony's third person shooter game "SOCOM," the USB headset produced by Logitech was one of the first USB devices created for the PS2. In conjunction with the internet adapter, the headset can be used to communicate with other players during online multiplayer gameplay. The headset also can be used for voice control in single player gameplay, such as with "SOCOM."

    EyeToy

    • Introduced in 2003, the PlayStation EyeToy is a color webcam for the PS2. The camera uses computer vision, gesture recognition and an on-board microphone to allow the gamer to interact with the screen. Since the camera's original release as part of the "EyeToy: Play" game bundle, dozens of "EyeToy" games have released between 2003 and 2008, and many more games offered enhanced gameplay via the EyeToy.

    Racing Wheels &Flight Sticks

    • Several USB racing wheels and flight sticks also are compatible with the PS2, most notably the Logitech Driving Force Pro USB Steering Wheel and the HORI Flightstick 2 USB Flight Stick. The Driving Force Pro is the official racing wheel for "Gran Turismo 4," while the Flightstick 2 is the official controller for "Ace Combat 5." Since these devices are USB, they also can be used as controllers for PC games and also are compatible with the PlayStation 3.

    SingStar Microphone

    • The SingStar microphone, used with the accompanying "SingStar" video game, includes a USB adapter that allows two microphones to be connected at the same time. The microphones also can be attached wirelessly with a wireless USB adapter.

    Keyboard &Mouse

    • Many USB keyboards and mice also are compatible with the PS2. Look for keyboards and mice that are made by Sony and feature the official USB logo. These devices allow you to forgo the on-screen keyboard when chatting with friends or setting up accounts that require a lot of typing. A connected keyboard and mouse also can be used to play some games, allowing you the precision of a mouse that you get on the PC.
