How to Hit the Right Notes for Karaoke Revolution: American Idol 1

Learning to hit the correct notes on Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol can improve your singing overall, and help you stay on the better side of the judges. Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol features 40 songs, and pits you in an American Idol-style singing competition, with an animated Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson to critique your performances. If Simon's harsh comments are getting you down, learning to hit the correct notes with your voice can help you get better criticism and move through the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Watch the arrow that runs along the bottom of the screen. The arrow tracks your vocal pitch, so you can see whether you are too flat or too high when you are singing. Check the horizontal blue bars above the words for the correct pitch. Learn where you are in relation to the correct notes when you try to sing, and try to learn what you are doing wrong. For example, you may track the changes in pitch well, but always be slightly flat (too low).

    • 2

Do some vocal exercises. There are many different vocal exercises you can do (see Resources for more information), but the most basic is to have someone play a scale on a piano and try to match it with your voice. Remember to do the scale in reverse as well. Get used to moving up and down in pitch and matching the notes that you hear.

    • 3

Straighten up your posture while singing. Even though Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol is just a game, keeping good posture while playing is important. Sing with your chin level, your head up, and your body relaxed. A slumped posture is tempting when you are playing a game, but it will constrict your body and therefore your voice.

    • 4

Learn your song. Familiarize yourself with the varying pitches the singer uses in any song you are having trouble with. The more you are comfortable with how the song goes, the better you will be at reproducing it. This is especially useful if you are stuck on one particular song in the game.

Listen to the judges' comments. The animated versions of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and the unknown Laura (included to replace the absent Paula Abdul) give you criticism based on your performances. These can give you key insights into what you are doing wrong. Perhaps your pitch is correct, but your timing is off, for example. Build on the judges' comments and you will hit the right notes more often.
