How to Get Magic Disk 2 to Work With PS2 Slim

The backup game loader Magic Disc 2 allows PlayStation 2 players to load backup copies of prized PS2 and import games on the PS2 and PS2 Slim. The disc, which is an unofficial software modification that won't void your system's warranty, runs a bypass program on your PS2, after which it must be removed without resetting the system. Your PS2 can be professionally modified to disable the sensors, but if you don't want to pay someone to do this, the same effect can be achieved at home with a pair of earplugs.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll a silicon earplug tightly between your finger and thumb, so it is about 1/4-inch thick. Some larger earplugs may require trimming before they can be rolled to this size.

    • 2

Push the earplug into the small sensor hole in the lower-right corner of the PlayStation 2's disc bay. Push far enough that the earplug will stay in place, but not too far, as you don't want to lose the plug inside the console.

    • 3

Roll the second earplug to the same size, and push it into the second sensor hole at the top of the disc bay, near the hinge.

    • 4

Place the Magic Disc 2 in the tray of your PlayStation 2, clicking it into place over the disc spindle. Press the "Power" button. The disc will start spinning without your needing to close the tray.

    • 5

Wait for the disc to boot, and choose "Load Program." When the "Swap Disc" screen appears, remove the Magic Disc 2, and insert the backup or import disc you wish to play. Then press "X" to boot the disc.
