How to Use Alcohol to Clean PS2 Games

The PlayStation 2 video game console--originally released in 2000--uses DVD-based media, much like the original Microsoft Xbox. Although DVDs are generally very sturdy media, if they get dirty and are used in a PlayStation game console, they can actually cause damage to the unit itself. However, using a simple household item like alcohol to clean the PlayStation 2 discs will rid them of dirt and prevent potential damage.

Things You'll Need

  • Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
  • Cotton swabs

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. The swab should be wet to the touch, but not dripping.

    • 2

Run the cotton swab across the data side of the disc, taking care to make outward strokes from the center of the disc; this is the easiest way to prevent unintentional scratching.

    • 3

Run the disc under tap water to clear away any extra dust or debris, then use a towel to absorb any extra moisture. Your disc should now be clean.
