Things You'll Need
Instructions
Check the connection between your PS2 network adapter and your PS2. Unlike modern consoles, the PS2 network adapter is not built into the system. It is an external device that you must connect to the network adapter port on the back of the console. Plug this adapter directly into the back of the console until you hear a "click" to make the connection. If the adapter is not plugged in correctly, it will not be able to communicate with your console and your PS2 won't go online.
Replace the Ethernet cable that connects your PS2 network adapter to your modem or router. This cable transfers data between the console and the modem or router and enables access to the Internet. If the cable has gone bad, replace it to get your console back up and running on the Internet. Likewise, if this cable has become disconnected from either the network adapter or the router or modem, plug it back in to restore the connection.
Ensure your PS2 memory card has enough space on it to store the file that contains the settings for your network adapter. If your PS2 is prompting you to configure your network adapter every time you start up an online game, the file that contains the settings is not being saved likely due to a lack of space on the memory card, or no memory card being inserted into the console. Plug in a memory card into the memory card slot and access it via the PS2 menu system. Ensure you have at least 200 KB of free space on the memory card to store this file. If you lack space, delete old game saves to free up space.
