How to Make a PS2 Play DVDs Made in the UK

Owners of American or Japanese Sony PlayStation 2 units (PS2s) who want to play UK CDs or DVDs on their system must first get around the regional encoding that prevents such use. Rather than taking apart your console and invalidating the warranty by soldering or modifying the hardware, there are several products available that "trick" your PS2 into thinking it is playing a CD or DVD from your region. One of the most popular and easiest to use is the Swap Magic 3 program , which must be used with one of three associated tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify which exact version of Swap Magic 3 your machine requires by locating the "SCHP" code on its base and checking it against the program list on the official Swap Magic 3 website (see References).

    • 2

Purchase the correct version for your system and choose one of the following three tools that you will need to use in conjunction with the program: Flip Top Cover, Slide Tool or Magic Switch.

    • 3

Put the Swap Magic 3 disc in your PS2 and click on the "Load Program" option when the cursor appears on the screen.

    • 4

Utilize your chosen tool to provide access to the disc tray and replace the Swap Magic 3 disc with the UK version of the DVD you wish to play or watch.

    • 5

Shut the disk tray and wait for the CD or DVD to load.
