Original PS2
Unplug all connections to the PlayStation 2 console, including memory card, controllers, AC plug, etc.
Turn the PlayStation 2 game console upside down. Pop out the pad/screw covers from the console with the flat head screwdriver. There are either six or eight covers, depending on the model, including two underneath the upper portion of the console and one under a sticker warning that removal voids warranty.
Remove all of the screws using the Phillips screwdriver. Keep all the screws in a safe place.
Remove the PlayStation 2 cover. Be very careful to remove the cover either from back to front or toward the CD tray side, as a ribbon connects behind the power and eject buttons. Damaging this ribbon requires extensive work to repair.
Push the power and eject buttons from the cover, again being careful of the ribbon. It may be necessary to pry the power mechanism underneath the cover with the flat head until it pops out.
Remove the four screws around the CD tray cover and remove the cover. Detach the magnetic, white center from the CD tray and place it somewhere secure.
Slide the power and eject buttons into the holes at the front right side of the top cover, fitting the mechanism along the top until it pops into place. Be careful of the ribbon.
Align the power ribbon with the side of the CD tray, make sure it is not crushed or otherwise interfered with, and place the flip top cover securely over the machine. Align the cover from front to back. Place the white magnetic piece in the center of the CD tray.
Flip the console over and replace each of the screws and covers.
Plug all connections back into the PS2.
PS2 Slim
Remove all connections to the PS2 console, including memory card, controllers, AC plug, etc.
Flip the PS2 over and remove the six stoppers from the bottom. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry them out.
Remove all six screws using the regular Phillips screwdriver and turn the console back over.
Gently remove the top cover of the PS2, be cautious that the power switch in the front remains in place.
Remove the two silver latches from inside the PS2 cover using the smaller () Philips screwdriver. Place the screws and brackets in a safe location.
Remove the third screw from with the PS2 cover. Once the last screw is removed detach the PS2 tray cover from the rest of the case. Don't worry if a spring falls out, it's not needed.
Align the new flip top cover into the opening holes of the previous cover. Replace the screws and latches onto the new cover exactly as they were with the old cover. It may take some effort to align the latches. Make sure that the cover is secure.
Place the new flip top cover onto the PS console. Be careful of the power button. Snap the cover into place and test that the CD tray cover can be opened by hand.
Flip the console over and replace all the screws and stoppers.
Plug connections back into the PS2 console.
Using Swap Magic
Once your Flip Top cover has been installed, turn on the PS2 without a disc in the tray.
Place the Swap Magic disc in the PS2 CD tray. There are two discs, one for CD-Rom discs and one for DVD disc, choose the disc that corresponds with the format of the game (most PS2 games are on DVD discs). Enter the browser.
On the origina/"fat" PS2 place the white magnetic piece at the center of the CD tray to secure the disc in place.
Remove the Swap Magic disc once the "Load Program" screen appears and the disc stops spinning. Do not remove the disc until it stops spinning and do not press the power or eject buttons.
Highlight video mode and select "PAL" from games from Europe.
Insert your English game disc. Click on "Load Program" and the game will start up.
