Guide to Taking Apart a PS2 Slim

After years of use, your PS2 Slim--still in operation in 2011 for gamers worldwide--may need to have a part swapped out or just a general cleaning with compressed air. The diminutive gaming console is easy to disassemble, if you don't mind voiding your warranty. The company has placed a sticker over one of six mounting screws on the bottom of the unit, so don't think you can get away with it on the sly. If you're game, follow a series of steps and you'll have your PS2 Slim in pieces in minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your PS2 Slim from all cables and place it on its top on a soft surface like clean carpet or a towel. Gently remove the console's two rear rubber feet (squares) with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the square rubber foot immediately between the two on the back of the console (This is under the voided warranty sticker, that must be removed). On the front end, remove the three square rubber feet--one near the center and the other two immediately behind the front corner rubber feet.

    • 2

Unscrew the six mounting screws with a Phillips screwdriver and place them with the six rubber feet.

    • 3

Gently pull the bottom of the console from the top, exposing the inner mechanics of the PS2 Slim.

    • 4

Remove the silver-colored screw at the front-left of your console, between the memory ports. This lets you remove the circuit board and metal shielding.
