My PS2 Slim USB Extreme Is Not Working

The USBeXtreme application for the PlayStation 2, or PS2, allows you to copy and backup your game discs. The application doesn't operate as a traditional software, so operating it might seem difficult. The USBeXtreme must be installed on a external hard disk. Connecting the hard disk to your computer and finding the program on the drive is not enough to actually get the program to run. The Windows Run command is required to operate the software.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the PS2 USBeXtreme with a compatible external hard drive. The USBeXtreme is compatible with all official PS2 hard drives. See Resources for a list of compatible drives.

    • 2

Find the drive letter of your external hard disk. Connect a compatible PS2 hard drive to your computer's USB port. Allow the driver for the hard drive to download and install, if prompted. Click on the desktop "Start" menu. Choose the "Computer" or "My Computer" folder. Locate the connected external hard drive and make note of the drive letter (e.g., (D:) or (G:)).

    • 3

Download the file, if necessary. USBeXtreme must be purchased (see Resources). Allow it to install in the default installation path (or the path that the software chooses), don't change the installation directory to your external hard drive. Download the USBeXtreme client software (see Resources). Double-click to unzip the downloaded file. Double-click on the "USBeXtreme_setup.exe" file and allow it to install on your computer.

    • 4

Format the USBeXtreme for the external hard drive. Click the desktop start menu and choose "Run." Enter "cd\" to change the directory of the C drive and press "Enter." Type "ul_format X format" (change "X" to the drive letter of the external hard drive) next to "C:\>" and press "Enter." The format action will take place. Don't remove the hard drive.

Format games using the "Run" command. The USBeXtreme software will not open as a traditional software, you must prompt the conversion process through the PC's Run command. Connect the external hard disk to the computer's USB port, and insert the PS2 game disk into the optical drive. Click the desktop "Start" menu and choose "Run." Type "Command" in the Run field and press "Enter." Type "cd\" next to "C:\>" and press "Enter." Type "ul_install SourceDrive TargetDrive GameName CD/DVD." Change "SourceDrive" to the drive letter of your optical drive, "TargetDrive" to the drive letter of your external hard disk and "GameName" to the actual name of the game (e.g., ul_install D E MetalGear DVD). USBeXtreme will convert the PS2 game; this process could take up to an hour.
