Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine whether the disc or the PS2 itself is the problem. Test other games with your system. If they work, the problem is with your game disc. If they don't, you will need to clean the lens in your PS2.
Clean your PS2's lens. Follow the instructions included with the lens cleaning kit as the process varies from product to product.
Clean your game disc. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a clean, lint-free cloth. Wipe the disc in straight lines. Work from the center of the disc to the outer edge. Repeat until you have wiped the entire surface of the data side of the disc. Allow the disc to dry before loading it into your system.
Buff out any scratches on the disc using toothpaste if the problem persists. Spread a quarter-sized dollop of toothpaste onto the data side of the disc with your fingers using the method you used earlier to clean the disc. Pay particular attention to any deep scratches. Rinse the toothpaste from the disc with cool water. Dab the excess moisture with a clean, lint-free cloth and allow the disc to dry completely.
