Things You'll Need
Instructions
Plug in all PS2 consoles, as well as all monitors. Make sure each PS2 console is properly connected to an individual monitor. Insert the Gran Turismo 4 game and at least one PS2 memory card into each console. Plug the router into the wall.
Connect all PS2 consoles into the router using individual ethernet cables. PS2 Slim's already have a network adapter built into the console; original PS2's require an external PlayStation Network Adapter.
Decide which PS2 console will serve as the Host. With each console, enter the "LAN Settings" menu and set a "Console Name" as well as the "Host" option to "Yes" or "No." Only the Host can decide how many players and monitors can enter the LAN connection, as well as other LAN and in-game options.
Set up the player settings, track selection and car selection. Using the Host PS2 console, enter the "2 Player Battle Options" menu in the "Arcade Mode" screen. Select the desired settings. Enter the "Course Registration" menu under the "Arcade Mode" menu. Select which tracks you want available; these tracks will be the chosen tracks during LAN play. All PS2 players must have a track available on their Gran Turismo 4 save file for the track to work. Choose the cars you want to be saved to your "Arcade Favorite" car menu. During the normal car selection process in "Arcade Mode," press the Directional Pad "Up" button to add a specific car to the "Arcade Favorite" menu. Up to 30 cars can be added to this selection. Only already provided or unlocked "Arcade Mode" cars can be used; saved cars from single player mode or any other special cars cannot be used in LAN mode. Save your settings, as you cannot change settings inside LAN mode.
Enter "Network" settings within the "Options" menu. Set "Auto Connection" to "No." In order for Auto Connection to work, all consoles must have an individual "Connection ID" chosen and the LAN needs to have been set up in the past.
Select "Arcade Mode" and choose "Multi-LAN Race." Each console will need to use a "Network Configuration" file. If you have already set this up in the past, select it off your memory card; if not, create a new file by selecting "OK" when prompted on the "Network Configuration" screen. Provide a name for the "Network Configuration" and set the "Use DCHP" and "Use auto DNS" to "Yes." You can edit these settings in the future by choosing "Edit" and selecting your saved "Network Configuration." If these settings work during the LAN connection, you will not need to change this data again unless the network itself changes in the future. Save the "Network Configuration" to your memory card.
Select "Connect" for each console in the "Network Configuration" menu. A "Waiting for Connection" screen will appear. This connection process should take no longer than 10 to 20 seconds. After each console has connected to the LAN, cars, tracks and settings can be chosen and the race can begin.
