The PlayStation 2 Memory Card Is Not Working

You can use memory cards with the PlayStation 2 (PS2) to save and store data. These memory devices are ideal for saving game levels, so you can resume games without starting all over again. In some cases, it is possible for a memory card to become corrupt. The causes for this problem include damaged files or incompatible information saved to the device. With a few troubleshooting steps and guidelines, you can resolve these problems quickly and safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure the card is a fully licensed Sony card that includes the Sony logo. Ensure the memory card is inserted securely into one of the memory card slots on your console.

    • 2

Verify you have sufficient space on your memory card to save content. View the content on your memory card by selecting your card from the main screen when you insert it into your console.

    • 3

Use the card with a different console if you have access to one. The card might be damaged if it is still not functioning and may require replacement.

    • 4

Delete corrupt files. Insert the card into one of the card slots and turn on your gaming console. Select the "Browser" option from the main menu and press the "X" button. Select your memory card's icon. You should see the files saved to your device. Highlight the files you want to remove and press the "Delete" button.

    • 5

Reformat the card. Remove all discs from the disc tray and insert your memory card into one of the card slots. This launches the system menu. Select "System Configuration" and then the "Memory Settings" subfolder. Choose your memory card and select "Format." Your game console formats the card and deletes all saved data.
