How to Connect a PS2 to a Car Video System

Whether you just want to keep the kids busy on long road trips or you are simply a gaming fanatic, installing a PlayStation 2 gaming console in your vehicle will allow passengers to enjoy PS2 games while on the go. If your vehicle already has a DVD or video monitor, integrating the PS2 for use on the system is much easier than you might think.

Things You'll Need

  • A/V RCA extension cable
  • Three RCA male-to-female "Y" adapters (if the monitor only has one video input)
  • DC/AC power inverter

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the vehicle engine. Disconnect the audio/video cables from the car monitor or television that lead to the DVD player or other video source component.

    • 2

Connect the three RCA male-to-female "Y" adapters to the video monitor. Connect one each to the red, white and yellow ports on the monitor screen.

    • 3

Connect the A/V cables from the DVD or other video source component into the three adapters you connected earlier. Connect the cable from the DVD player or source component into one of the female plugs on the adapter from the correct port. Match the color of the plug leading from the source component to the port on the monitor (the plugs on the adapter "Y" cable are usually black or gray in color).

    • 4

Connect the RCA A/V cables to the PlayStation 2. Connect the other end of the three cables into the open female plugs of the adapter "Y" cables (match colors to the monitor ports rather than the adapter cables).

    • 5

Plug the power cord from the PS2 into the receptacle outlet on the DC/AC power inverter. Plug the cigarette lighter adapter from the power inverted into an empty accessory or cigarette lighter outlet. Start the vehicle's engine.

    • 6

Power on the display monitor or television. Turn on the PS2 and load a game disc. Use your PS2 to play games as you normally would.
