How to Clean a PS2 Disc

Remove debris, dust and stains from the disc. Wipe the disc with soft towel or a piece of cloth in a back-and-forth motion from the center to the outer edges. Don't wipe the disc in a circular motion or place your finger on the surface of the disc.

Check the disc once it is cleaned. Debris and stain defects are less likely to cause serious damage to the disc, so your game should work properly after you wipe off the dust and debris.

Identify any scratches on the disc, if the disc still does not work. Scratches can occur anywhere on the disc, especially on the outer edges. Focus on the areas that have deep scratches; these cause more errors than tiny scuffs and scratches.

Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the scratches on your disc. Use a soft towel or piece of cloth to rub the paste into the scratches on the disc. Polish carefully in a circular motion along the length of the scratches.

Rinse the disc with lukewarm water. Dry it by wiping it with a soft towel or a clean piece of cloth. Make sure the disc is dry and there's no excess toothpaste on it before you test it in your system.
