How to Cross Check and Slash in NHL 2K8 for PS2

NHL 2K8 was originally released September 10, 2007. Developed by Kush Games, this ice hockey simulation features updated graphics and the ability to create custom teammates for online play. The game has a revamped control scheme, and without reference to the instruction manual, it can be difficult to learn moves. Checking and slashing are both offered in NHL 2K8. How to perform these moves depends on player position and whether the puck is in your team's possession.

      Select your team and start a new game.

      Using a player on defense, skate toward your opponent by moving the left analog stick. To skate backward, move the left analog stick while holding down the "L2" button. Press the "X" button to check and the triangle button to poke check.

      Using a player on offense, press the circle button to check and the triangle button to poke check.

    • 4

      Playing as the goalie, press the circle button to check and/or slash (an illegal swing) and the square button to poke check.
