Instructions
Look at the packaging that your PlayStation 2 game came in and see what's required to get it to run. Though most PS2 games will work immediately after inserting them into your console, certain games may require an add-on device like the PS2 external hard disk drive. If you don't have the appropriate add-on necessary for your specific game, the game won't work.
Remove your memory card. Certain PlayStation 2 games will attempt to read the information off of your memory card immediately after you put the game into your console. If your memory card has an error or the game can't find what its looking for, it may continue to look and not actually load the game's main menu. Removing your memory card will disable your ability to save, but it will likely allow the game to boot once again.
Insert your PlayStation 2 controller into the "Controller 1" port on the front of the console. The PlayStation 2 controller is called the "Dual Shock 2." Some games may not load correctly or at all if no controller is detected as being plugged into the front of the console. Insert your game and then allow it to load.
