How to Unlock PS2 Games

Some PS2 games will not play on your PS2 console. This may be due to the fact that the game disc is from a different region or because the game was burned on a recordable disc. You can modify, or mod, your PS2 console so it will unlock and play any game disc, but this requires some disassembly of the unit.

Things You'll Need

Phillips screwdriver
Electrical tape

Instructions

  Turn off your PS2 and unplug all cables from the rear of the unit.

  Turn the unit over and remove all screws from the underside of the PS2. Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the rubber covers off each of the screws.

  Turn the unit right side up and lift the top case off the PS2. The internal components will be visible in the bottom half of the PS2.

  Locate the sensor on the back of the power switch. The power switch is located in the right corner of the PS2. Tear off a small piece of electrical tape and place it over the sensor to block it.

  Locate the disc drive in the PS2 housing. Just above the disc drive, on the top left corner, is another sensor. Place a small piece of tape over the sensor.

  Turn the top casing of the PS2 over and locate the small metal plate in the top left corner of the interior of the casing. This is the area that sits directly over the sensor above the disc drive.

  Place tape over the metal plate. With all these sensors blocked, your PS2 will play any disc. Replace the top cover and reverse the steps for reassembly.
