The PS2 Slim Console Will Not Play DVDs

The Playstation 2 is a gaming console that allows users to play PS2 formatted games as well as DVDs. If you are getting an error message from your PS2 when you insert a DVD into the optical drive, there are a few things that you can do before you send the console out for repair. Scratched discs, discs in the wrong format and dirty lenses are the primary causes for a PS2 to give you a disc read error.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your PS2 and insert your DVD into the optical drive. Restarting the console will occasionally allow it to load a problematic disk.

    • 2

Check the format of your DVD. PS2s run either NTSC or PAL DVDs, depending on the region in which the console was purchased. Use a DVD that is in the proper format before you send the console out for servicing.

    • 3

Use a different DVD to see if the DVD you are trying to load is scratched. Check the DVD for scratches and then clean the DVD with a rag and some water. Try to load the DVD again.

    • 4

Use a lens cleaning disk to remove any dirt or grime on your PS2's lens. These can be found at local electronics stores.

    • 5

Use a can of compressed air to blow any dust out of the console. Dust can cause the disk to spin irregularly. This will cause the disc read error.
