Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Won't Start

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is a video game designed to be played with the Sony PlayStation 2 home video game console. It is a sequel to the massively popular "Grand Theft Auto III" and "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" video games for the same machine. If your game disc of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" won't start, it could be due to a few different hardware- and software-related reasons.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your copy of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" on a Sony PlayStation 2, not a Sony PlayStation 3. Unless you have one of the original 20GB or 60GB launch models of the PlayStation 3, your PS3 cannot play PlayStation 2 games like "San Andreas." If you're attempting to start "San Andreas" on a newer PS3, this is why it isn't working.

    • 2

Remove your memory card from your PlayStation 2. When "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" loads, it automatically loads your last saved game from your memory card. If your memory card has become corrupt, it could cause problems with the loading of the game. Removing the memory card will allow the game to load fresh. If the game does load after removing the memory card, you will need to delete your saved game as it is corrupt.

    • 3

Clean the bottom side of your "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" game disc. The bottom side, opposite the game's label, is where all of the data for the disc is stored. If this side of the disc is dirty or scratched, your PlayStation 2 isn't going to be able to read the contents of the disc to load the game. Clean your "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" game disc with a clean, dry cloth.
