How to Do a Substitution for Jutsu in Naruto: Ultimate Ninja

"Naruto: Ultimate Ninja" is a PlayStation 2 fighting game using characters from the "Naruto" comic and cartoon series. The game uses a special visual technique called "cell shading," which makes the characters and locations appear like 2D cartoons, even though the game is 3D. All of the characters have their own fighting styles and moves based on the techniques from the cartoon series. A common technique that all characters share is the "substitution jutsu," which allows them to attack their opponent's blind side.

Instructions

  1. Story Mode

    • 1

Build up a supply of kakashi figures. These enable the character to automatically perform a substitution jutsu for as long as they are active. Break environmental objects to reveal items, including kakashi figures. Talking to other characters in the game can also gain you kakashi figures in some cases.

    • 2

Press "START" when an opponent begins a combo attack. Use the digital pad to scroll to the item menu and press "X" while the kakashi figure is highlighted.

    • 3

Exit the menus and return to the game. The kakashi figure will be active for a limited amount of time, allowing the automatic use of substitution jutsu.

    Any Battle

    • 4

Wait until the enemy is about to perform an attack. The timing will be crucial, so spend some time in practice mode to perfect your timing.

    • 5

Press the "L2" or "R2" trigger button. This must be done as soon as the enemy starts to attack. The character will teleport behind the enemy, allowing you to attack their blind side.

    • 6

Press the "O" button and hold down the digital pad in the opposite direction of the enemy attack. This is done just before the enemy does an additional hit on your character. Work on the timing of this move to do it perfectly every time. The character will perform a substitution jutsu and hit the enemy from behind.
