How to Hook Up a PS2 to a Large Analog TV Without Losing Picture Quality

When using the stock cables that come with the system, the PlayStation 2 outputs at the standard definition resolution of 480i. When the image is output onto a large screen, this resolution results in a loss of image quality. The PS2 is also compatible with S-video cables and component cables, however, that up the resolution to 480p and allow the PS2 to be connected to a large screen without loss of image quality.

Instructions

  1. S-Video

    • 1

Plug the S-video adapter into the PlayStation 2 system.

    • 2

Plug the S-video image end of the adapter into the S-video port on the back of the TV.

    • 3

Plug the red and yellow audio ends of the adapter into the red and yellow audio inputs on the back of the TV.

    • 4

Turn on the PlayStation 2 system. The image will automatically output at the higher resolution.

    Component Cables

    • 5

Plug the component adapter into the back of the PS2 system.

    • 6

Plug the red, green and blue ends of the cable into the red, green and blue component image inputs on the back of the TV.

    • 7

Plug the red and yellow audio ends of the cable into the red and yellow audio inputs on the back of the TV.

    • 8

Turn on the PS2 system. The image will automatically be output at the 480p resolution.
