Educational PS2 Games for Kids

The early childhood years are extremely important to brain development, making video games, a popular pastime for kids, a strong influence on many a child's mind. While many games for young children were released for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), only a handful are strictly educational. Konami, a game developer known for creating popular series like "Mega Man" and "Resident Evil," teamed up with Sony to create a series of educational games for the PS2. These "Konami Kids Playground" games were released in September 2007 and are intended for children between the ages of 2 and 5.
  1. Alphabet Circus

    • "Alphabet Circus" is an educational PS2 game for kids "designed to stimulate young minds and bodies," according to All Game. Young players interact and explore with circus characters like Ethyl the Elephant, Chico the Clown and Fred the Monkey. "Alphabet Circus" offers 12 mini-games geared toward teaching numbers, letters and shapes. Kids throw pies, fire cannons and perform other circus feats by stepping on the required Konami Kids Playground mat.

    Frogger Hop, Skip &Jumpin' Fun

    • Designed to improve coordination, "Frogger Hop, Skip &Jumpin' Fun," is another educational PS2 game for kids. The game features the classic arcade icon Frogger and his companion Lily as they navigate through bayous, swamps and woods. Kids use hand-eye coordination and the Konami Kids Playground mat to complete 12 matching mini-games, each with an outdoor theme and featuring variations of popular games like hopscotch and tag. In the game "Fly Catch," players earn the chance to see Frogger slurp a fly in his mouth with every correct match.

Along the way, friendly dinosaurs like Rex, Bronto, Steg and Dac accompany them. "Dinosaurs Shapes &Colors" features 12 mini-games with a dinosaur theme.
