My Slim PS2 Won't Read Movies

A smaller, sleeker version of the PlayStation 2, the PlayStation 2 slimline video game console, known informally as the "slim PS2," plays not only games and CDs, but also DVDs. Sometimes the PS2 slimline models can have a hard time playing a DVD or will not recognize the disk. Most of the time the issue requires just an easy fix; however, sometimes you may need to send your PS2 slimline to Sony to have it replaced or repaired.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the DVD with cleaning wipes. If the DVD is scratched or dusty, the lens in the PS2 slimline will not read the DVD.

    • 2

Spray the back of the console where the fan is. Open the game tray and spray the inside of the tray toward the lens. Dust can collect on the fan, and when the game system turns on, the fan can blow dust on the lens. This can cause a DVD or game read error.

    • 3

Place a DVD into the game tray. If the disk doesn't read, continue to the next step.

    • 4

      Open the game tray again.

    • 5

Spray electronic cleaning spray on a cotton swab. Wipe the cotton swab over the lens located below the open game tray. This should get any excess dust off the lens, allowing the DVD to play.

    • 6

Try a different DVD. If the second DVD doesn't play, contact a professional for help fixing your console.
