How to Clean the Laser Eye on a PS2 Slim

Regular game play on a PlayStation2 Slim can cause dust and grime to accumulate on the internal laser eye that reads the data on game discs. Over time, this lens can become so dirty that it is unable to scan game discs accurately, resulting in error messages from the PS2 Slim. A laser lens-cleaning disc--which is available at gaming, computer and electronics stores--can often clean the eye and resolve playback problems.

Instructions

  Press the "Open" button on the front of the game console to raise the disc cover on the PS2 Slim.

  Insert the lens-cleaning disc into the PS2 Slim as you would a game disc, and close the tray cover by pressing straight it down until it locks.

  Press "Play" on the PS2 Slim's remote control, or the "X" button on a game controller, to start the cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle usually completes in less than five minutes.

  Remove the lens-cleaning disc, and replace it with a game disc to test playback on the PS2 Slim.
