How to Save a PlayStation 1 Game on a PlayStation 2 Memory Card

While the PlayStation 2 is backwards compatible for most games, the browser software used with its memory cards makes it impossible to save or load PS1 game files directly to or from a PS2 memory card. Since the browser does not function with PS1 games or memory cards, the system can't access many of the features that the PS2 has but the PS1 does not--including USB ports, network and the optional hard drive. However, the increased capacity of the PS2 makes it a fine storage site for PS1 saves.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the PS1 memory card into PS2 slot one and PS2 memory card into slot two. There are some cases where the PS1 card will not be accessed when it's not in the correct slot.

    • 2

Remove any disc that is in the console and turn the system on; this will automatically access the browser.

    • 3

      Access the PS1 memory card.

    • 4

Select the game and save file you wish to duplicate and choose "copy" from the file menu.

    • 5

Choose the PS2 memory card or hard drive as the destination for the copy and confirm the operation.
