How to Play Games on a PlayStation 2 Without a Memory Card

Sony's PlayStation 2 (PS2) is the most successful games console of all time, selling upwards of 140 million units. Even after the release of the PlayStation 3, Sony still manufactures new games for the PS2, due to the demand. Memory cards allow you to save your progress on your favorite PlayStation 2 games. It is still possible to play games on the console without a memory card, but you will not be able to save your progress, and there are some additional screens you may have to navigate before you can start playing, depending on the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch the power on to your PlayStation 2 by flicking the switch at the back-left of the console to the "On" position.

    • 2

Press the blue "Eject" button to open the disc tray. Insert the game, shiny side down, before pressing the "Eject" button again.

    • 3

Press the green "Power" button to restart the console with the game inside.

    • 4

Select "OK" when you see screens warning you that you will not be able to save your progress or create a user profile for this particular game.

    • 5

Play the game as normal. You will not be able to save your game.
