How to Make an ISO Into a Playable PS2 Game

You may want to convert an ISO (shortened from ISO 9660 file system) or other type of disc image from a file on your PC to a playable PlayStation 2 (PS2) game on a writable DVD (DVD-R or DVD+R). There are many reasons to do this including making a physical backup of an original game that you already have in your possession or to play a backed-up version of a game that might have been lost or stolen.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • ISO of a PS2 game
  • Burning software like Active@ Iso, ImgBurn or Nero Burning ROM

Instructions

  1. Getting The Tools Ready

    • 1

Find your ISO or disc image from your PS2 backup. These can also sometimes be in other formats such as mdf or ccd.

    • 2

Download the burning software. Alternatively, your computer might have come with some burning software of its own (which can usually be found in the Start menu under Programs on Windows PCs). In the Resources section you will find a few free or trial based software to get you started.

    • 3

Install the software. Follow the instructions carefully as the software will help walk you through the installation process.

    Burning the Game

    • 4

Load the burning software you installed.

    • 5

Choose the option to create a new burn or CD/DVD.

    • 6

Check the required options. The default settings are usually the best however when burning a playable PS2 game you will want to set the write speed to 4x or less.

    • 7

Burn the game. Click finish and the process should begin. Once this is complete you'll have a physical DVD backup of the file on your computer.

    • 8

Try out the game. Using the necessary modifications, run the burned PS2 game on the PlayStation 2 and it should boot.
