Basics
The premise of FIFA 07 is simple -- the player picks a team and tries to outshoot the opposition. Scoring goals can be done in a number of ways: via clever passing movements, speedy attacks down the wing, free-kicks and penalties (just as in real soccer). Some players may opt for the flashy and complicated in an effort to prove their mastery of the game while making their opponents look silly in the process -- as with all FIFA games, advanced soccer tricks can be used to set up other team members, get out of trouble or go for spectacular solo efforts that only really work on computer games. The player must know which soccer characters can perform the tricks, as only those with a specific skill level can do so effectively.
The Step-Over
The step-over is one of the standard tricks in soccer. The character swings his legs around the moving ball as if to go in a particular direction. This move is used as an illusion to fool the opponent into making the first move. The player can then either go the opposite direction or run straight past his opponent once the opponent is wrong-footed. To perform this trick, just tap forward on the controller twice.
The Rainbow
The rainbow is an unconventional trick that's rarely seen in real soccer but is popular on computer games. The character, while running with the ball, drags it back slightly behind him with one foot and flicks it over his head with the heel of his other foot. This move can be used to completely wrong-foot the opponent. To perform it, just rotate the analog stick clockwise while running with the ball.
The Blanco Bounce
A soccer move created by and named after the Mexican international star Cuauhtémoc Blanco. The character, from either a stationary or moving position, simply jumps into the air with the ball between his feet. This move can be used to beat opposing players while keeping the ball completely under control, with those opponents unable to cleanly take the ball without committing a foul. To achieve this move, just tap the sequence forward, back and forward, but be sure to hold the second forward.
