How to Fix an Old PS2 That Says Disc Read Errors

Playstation 2 games and DVDs all contain different coding, and some are harder for the console's laser to read than others. Games with a blue disc are noted for this particular problem. The systems will struggle with even recognizing the game, and playing is even harder. Systems need to be opened to attain a level of playability for discs that bring up the disc read error screen, and certain parts need to be looked at.

Instructions

    • 1

Take off any additions on the system such as a network adapter. On the bottom of the system, there are 4 rubber feet and 6 square tabs. Remove them with the flathead screwdriver.

    • 2

Use the philips head screwdriver to undo the 10 screws beneath the rubber that was just removed. Take the bottom cover off and flip the system rightside up.

    • 3

Slide the top cover off of the system. With a jeweler's screwdriver, remove the four screws that hold the cover of the loading tray. Slide the cover off.

    • 4

Spray the compressed air into the system, especially near the lasers. Do not spray the lasers directly.

    • 5

Power on the system and hit the eject button. This will open up more of the system tray for cleaning. Spray this area. Once the dust is gone, reassemble the system.
