How to Identify a PS2 Power Cord

The Playstation 2, or PS2, is a home video game console produced by electronics giant Sony. The additional items provided in a factory sealed package include a controller, an RCA cable to connect the PS2 to your television and an AC power cord. In the event that you misplace, mix-up with hundreds of other cords or simply need to replace the power cord, there are a few things to look for to make certain you are getting the correct cord.

Instructions

  1. Identifying the PS2 Power Cord

    • 1

Look for a black cord. Playstation 2 (PS2) power cords by Sony and many third party brands are all black.

    • 2

Look for a simple cord without protuberances. The cord itself is a simple, semi-flat wire with a groove down the middle. There are no bulky additions and the part that attaches to the wall outlet is a standard, unpolarized, two-prong AC plug (in the United States).

    • 3

Identify the PS2 attachment end. The part of the cord that plugs into the PS2 should have a slightly flattened look, with rounded edges. Looking at the plug head on, you will find that it is divided into two equal parts directly down the middle. On each side of the divide is a hole, making this a two-prong attachment.

    • 4

Look at the PS2 connection end, for off-brand cords. If your power cord does not follow any of the other standard identifiers, such as color, look to the PS2 attachment. This is the fail proof method of identifying the cord.
